Customer Focus - Communicate Properly and Effectively

Here's What I've Done

I was tasked by one of my management teachers to write a short explanation on the concept of Utilitarianism. I felt the best way to show my teacher that I understood the concept was to create a real world scenario that was simple and easy to understand. This way I can test my self to see if I can apply classroom learning on the job. I was easily able to create a scenario because it actually occurred at my place of work. A big part of communicating is listening. I was able to listen to that my customer in this case my professor wanted and deliver a well written document the effectively communicated that I understood the assignment.

Here is What it Means to Me

Being able to apply what I have learned to my career is extremely important. I want to advance quickly within my company and that will require learning process and concepts at an accelerated rate. Most of the people working in HR have years of experience. If I want to become an experience worker I will have to not only be able to explain concepts but also apply them. Communication will be the key to making sure I fully understand what the customer (internal and external) is inquiring about.

Here is Where it Will Lead Me

Being able to apply important concepts will lead me to success in my career.

OPM holds all the important rules and regulations HR specialist must follow

while working for the government. There are a lot of rules that require

application. By practicing applying concepts to real life scenarios I will be able to easily apply and interpret OPM's standards. In other words OPM communicates its policies to the public and the public (HR specialist) must effectively communicate the policies by applying them properly.
